Hey everyone. I've been to the store a couple of times (bought a magic starter deck) and I was looking at the event calendar and stuff. My friend and I were pretty excited to come to the Level 1-3 D&D session tomorrow and learn how to play, but sadly I'm going on a week long trip and leaving tomorrow at 6am (going to memphis TN, to St. Jude's cancer hospital to play with the kids and clean and stuff). I was wondering if there was any other sessions we could play at where newbs aren't minded, because I noticed after next sunday the level range for sunday play goes up to 4-6 (which we obviously aren't). anyway. yeah, we were just excited to learn how to play and get into it and stuff. So, thanks for the help.

The absolute best way to come in and learn how to play is to hop in on the Wednesday Night Encounters program. They're quick hour or so long sessions designed to help everyone learn how to play.
You're more than welcome to play any of the other sessions, if your characters aren't high enough level, you can make a new character at the low-level, no problem.
Not to mention, a DM is usually available and if you have a group with enough players I'm sure you can convince them to run some quick introductory games for you to get the hang of it.
Feel free to ask questions, there is a lot of other new players in this game, I'm sure everyone will appreciate the questions and may find out they learned something they 'thought' they knew.
So have fun!

We use a very handy tool to create heros & Fantastic Games. It's called the Character Builder and will allow you to create heros in store in as little as 10-15 minutes. It is self explanatory but we are also willing to walk you through the process.
We do have a RPGA rule concerning content at Public Play & Encounters Events. You may only use content from Players Handbook, Dungeon Masters Guide, Monster Manual, Dungeon & Draon Magazines, and all other published works from which you bring a physical copy. So if you want to play that killer Psion, you'll need Players Handbook 3 . . .
coincidentally, we sell all D&D books and members get 10% off the retail price.

It's a good idea to show up a bit early, shouldn't take more than an hour to make a character, although sometimes before the game, there are more players than computers so there is a bit of a wait. You can also come in on any other day to make your character when there is less of a rush and you might just get some personal attention and advice and tips and tricks that wouldn't otherwise be available during a busy game day!
